First Choice is your source for some of the greater Augusta area's Christmas-time events that you won't want to miss! There's no denying that our town is growing with so many new residents here for hospitals, universities, Fort Gordon, Plant Vogtle - and the list goes on. This article is for anyone that might be new in town and wants to know what Augusta gets up to around Christmas. If you have family visiting, here is a list of holiday activities to check out with links to the websites and associated prices. Events may be added to this list throughout the month of December. Christmas Lights and Decorations

Lights of the South in Grovetown, GA - $12 for Adults

Open Nov. 18 through Dec. 30th, every night, 6 pm to 10 pm (Closed Christmas Day) OVER 5 MILLION LIGHTS displayed on over 100 acres! Voted as one of the TOP 20 Events In The Southeast by The Southeastern Tourism Society. Hay rides, visit Santa, let your kids play in Candy Land, enjoy the world’s only Christmas Tree Maze, and roast marshmallows over an open fire. KC Christmas Light Show - Free

December 1 to January 10. Sunday to Thursday 6pm - 11pm Friday/ Saturday 6pm-12pm Free LED Light show to music in Evans.

Christmas House Decorations - Free

Wednesday, Dec. 07 - Dec. 10  6:00 pm to 9:00 pm In North Augusta, travel back 2,000 years and join a caravan of travelers, as live actors walk you through the the town of Bethlehem at Grace United Methodist Church.

Season of Light$5 Adults, 50% Military discount

Wednesday Dec. 3 - Dec. 17  7pm At the Dupont Planetarium in Aiken, S.C. narrated by Noah Adams, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered". A spectacular show, tracing the development of many of the world's endearing holiday customs, and how they light up the winter season. They portray everything from the burning Yule log and sparkling Christmas tree lights to the lighting of the Menorah and luminaries.  

Aiken Night of 1,000 Lights - Free

Thursday, Dec. 8 from 6pm to 8 pm In downtown Aiken, lights line the streets and shops stay open late to offer holiday treats, drinks and music for a festive evening out.   Carpenter's Christmas - $39.50 Thursday, Dec. 8   7PM “Merry Christmas Darling: Carpenters’ Christmas” is a concert show celebrating the biggest hits of one of the most successful recording acts of all time.   Columbia County Christmas Village AND Country Christmas Concert - Free Friday, Dec. 9   6pm to 9pm Enjoy music by RedHead Express, hot food, cold drinks from Tip Top Taps, s'mores roasting and sledding. Heated tents, blankets, and hand warmers will be available on site.   SantaCon Augusta -  $15 dollar donation Friday, Dec. 9   4pm to Midnight Downtown Augusta; must be 21 years old; holiday-themed pub crawl; dress as Santa, elves, reindeer, snowmen. 21 and up. Head to Metro Coffee House to pick up your passport for the event.  

Christmas in Georgia Concert - Free Friday, Dec. 9    7PM to 9PM Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center (Evans Library) There will be a combination of Christmas classics, today's Christmas favorites, and original songs. Concert starts at 7:15. Doors open at 7:00. Admission is free. Seating is limited so arrive early. Free refreshments will be available in the lobby following the concert. For more information, contact us at ChristmasInGeorgia@gmail.com.   Auggie's Holiday Bazaar - Free Saturday, Dec. 10   11am to 2pm The GreenJackets will be hosting their 3rd Annual Auggie's Holiday Bazaar at Lake Olmstead Stadium. This is a family fun event where you can meet Santa and Mrs. Clause, do Christmas shopping through out our vendor fair, let the kids bounce on inflatables and climb on different cars from our Touch-A-Truck. There will also be food and drinks along with FREE coffee and hot chocolate! This is also a Toys For Tots Toy drive in which you will be entered in to win a prize when you donate a toy when you first enter the Bazaar!   Christmas Crafts @ The Farmers Market - Free Saturday, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17  8am to 12pm Pottery, clothing, gifts, cutting boards, gords, live music ....and much much more! Plus all the seasonal meat, dairy, fruit and veg from Aiken County.   A Christmas Carol The Musical - $20 to $48 depending on seats Saturday, Dec. 10  @ 8pm and Sunday Dec. 11 @ 3pm Imperial Theater. The Augusta Players will give the holiday spirits the full Broadway treatment with the musical version of the Charles Dickens classic.   25th Annual Christmas in Hopelands - Free December 10- 11, 15-23, and 26    6:00pm to 9:30pm The 25th Annual Christmas in Hopelands takes place at Hopelands Gardens in Aiken, South Carolina. This enchanting walk-through exhibit features over two miles of lighted pathways and illuminated holiday displays. Over 100,000 twinkling lights in the peaceful setting of Hopelands Gardens are a must-see during the Christmas season.   7th Annual Williston Nativity Festival- Free, donations appreciated Saturday & Sunday Dec. 10 and 11   1pm to 5pm

A Walking tour of over 100 unique nativity scenes displayed throughout the church will remind you of the true meaning of Christmas and the peace and joy this holy season brings. Christmas crafts and baked goods will be available for purchase.  Admission is free but donations greatly appreciated.

  Holidays in Old Hollywood - Free Dec. 10 - 18  6pm to 8pm In Aiken, SC grab a drink and some food and enjoy a night of old hollywood fun. Drawing on his time playing in the Legendary Pickfair Mansion and her time performing events at the Historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, pianist John Vaughn and vocalist Brooke Lundy have teamed up to fill the Willcox with the sounds of standards, swinging holiday favorites and sing alongs.  

Home for the Holidays Symphony Concert - $30 - $45 Sunday Dec. 11    3pm to 5pm An afternoon of magical holiday favorites will be performed by the Aiken Symphony Orchestra. A perfect opportunity to bring the family, especially the kids! Many classics will surely entertain guests of all ages as well as some lesser-known pieces.   Teddy Bear Brunch -  Brunch buffet is $21.99 Sunday, Dec. 11  & Dec. 18  11am  to 2pm The Partridge Inn partners with the Children’s Hospital of Georgia to bring holiday cheer to local hospitalized children during the Teddy Bear Brunch. On Sunday December 11 and 18, guests who attend the P.I. Bar & Grill’s Teddy Bear brunch are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to donate to the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. An added incentive: children 12 and under who donate a teddy bear will receive a complimentary meal.  

Grovetown Christmas Bear Giveaway & Santa photos - Free Wednesday, Dec. 14  2pm to 5pm Children are invited to meet Santa Clause at Grovetown City Hall for a Teddy Bear giveaway. Get a free Christmas teddy bear from Mayor Gary Jones and use your personal camera to get a photo with Santa.   Holiday Family Movie Night - Free Friday, Dec. 16  6:30pm Showing of the Grinch. Get in the holiday spirit with the Kroc Center of Augusta! Come see the state-of-the-art theater for a holiday movie night! The event is FREE and open to the public. Concessions will be available for purchase. Adults must accompany children.   Candlelight Tours of the Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson - $10 Adults Friday, Dec. 16    5pm to 7 pm Tours are offered every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour. The last tour will begin at 6:30 pm. Festive refreshments will be served in the museum’s visitors center, the ground level of the Joseph R. Lamar Boyhood Home next-door at 415 Seventh Street.   Fatty Marsha's 7th Annual Christmas Gala andToy drive - Advance $25 for singles $45 for coupled; at the door $30 singles, $55 couples Friday, Dec. 16   7:30pm A semi formal educational gala and toy drive to benefit children living with HIV! Dinner, drinks and an educational program included with each ticket. 21 and up. Venue: Sacred Heart Cultural Center   The Nutcracker - $20 Saturday & Sunday  Dec. 17 & 18   7pm to 8pm The Aiken Civic Ballet is putting on the classic, The Nutcracker. The Aiken Civic Ballet is South Carolina's longest continuously operating dance company. Located at the University of South Carolina Aiken.   A Critter Christmas - Free Sunday, Dec. 18   5pm Well behaved pets and their people are invited to this special service of carols and Holy Communion inside the church. This is not a blessing of the animals but an opportunity to enjoy worship in the company of your pets. Located at Church of the Holy Comforter 473 Furys Ferry Road in Martinez.  

Christmas Day Brunch - $39.99 per person Sunday, Dec. 25  11am to 3pm Join The Partridge Inn for a Christmas Day brunch buffet to celebrate the holiday season. The buffet offers a variety of selections including omelets, waffles, apple-smoked bacon, stone ground grits and roasted turkey sausage, a carving station featuring herb-crusted ribeye and roasted pork steamship and many holiday-themed sides. Guests can also indulge in cheesecake, bananas foster, fruit cobbler and more at the dessert bar.  Reservations can be made by calling 706-737-8888.
